Frequently Asked Questions

Epilfree Hair Removal Questions

  • Almost anyone can use Epilfree! It’s safe for all skin and hair types. This includes black and brown skin, as well as light and white hair. Laser hair removal can only be performed on pigmented (dark) hair and light skin. As with most treatments, women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid anything with active ingredients causing disruption to cellular communication.

  • Laser hair reduction attacks the pigment in hair. So if the hair is too light, then it isn’t effective. Laser can also damage the surrounding skin if it is melanated or pigmented. Epilfree works after the hair has been removed from the follicle via waxing or epilation, so the pigment of the hair and skin is of no consequence.

  • While each person’s biology is different, it’s likely to take 10-12 sessions for full removal. By FDA guidelines the term is permanent reduction. We are living organisms with continued growth. Common terminology has been permanent removal, however even laser is designated as reduction. After the initial results are achieved, a yearly touchup may be required - though some people need no further treatments. This is why packages are structured as buy 10, get 12.

  • The Epilfree serum has been found to be soothing. The only pain involved is in the waxing itself. This is why this must be performed by a professional able to speed wax with minimal pain before applying the serum.

  • The frequency that you would usually wax is how often you’ll want to use the Epilfree system. It is performed in conjunction with waxing. Typically this is once a month.

  • The serums need to work for 6 hours without the Ph being affected. Please wait 6 hours after each treatment to shower or apply lotions. (This applies to deodorant for underarms as well!)

  • Preparation is the same as waxing for the most part. Just know that the skin needs to be clear of all oils, deodorants, lotions, and residue. Clean skin only so that the Ph of the serum is not affected.

  • Waxing is the first step in the Epilfree process. While some male waxing is taught in school, some (specifically Brazilian waxing) is not and requires additional education. A “master’s class” if you will. Additionally, testosterone based hair growth is typically denser and coarser than estrogen based hair growth, requiring more wax, time, and supplies. This also will typically require more of the Epilfree serums.

  • As the above question addresses, the price differences are due to the differences in coarseness and thickness of hair as well as anatomy. If you’re undergoing HRT, this will affect hair density. So testosterone based = male; estrogen/progesterone based = female. The exception to this is for Brazilian Epilfree services, as the anatomy present makes a difference in the amount of education, time, wax, serum, and supplies involved. So this booking is for present anatomy. You are welcome to address this in the notes section of your booking, or reach out to me personally. I’m the only person who sees these notes.

ProCell Microchanneling and Hair Regrowth Questions

  • Microchanneling is the next step in technology from microneedling. Home microneedling tools often go in and out of the skin at an angle, causing extra damage to the epidermis. The patented microchanneling tool from ProCell directly enters and exits the skin, causing the least amount of damage. A human growth factor serum, derived from stem cell cytokines, is also used to accelerate results.

  • The number of sessions depends on the results desired. Everyone starts from a different place and is looking to achieve individual results. Packages are sold in groups of 3, as 3 sessions is where we see the degree of progress. Some people choose to stay at this progress with yearly touchups. Others choose to continue treatments. This is an individual choice.

  • Botox and other fillers are not part of your body and fade over time. They are designed to be replaced periodically. Microchanneling stimulates your own collagen growth and uses your cells to provide wrinkle and scarring correction as well as hair regrowth. It’s your own cells.

  • Wrinkle correction, scarring correction, and skin tightening treatments are best at 4 week intervals. This completes the “wound cycle” happening beneath the skin. Hair regrowth treatments can be performed as close together as 2 weeks.

  • Microchanneling is safe for nearly everyone. This will not cause keloids, discoloration, or unwanted scarring. For hair regrowth, if the follicle is still alive, then hair can be regrown. Hair regrowth results have not been verified in post-cancer treatment clients for this reason. The human growth factor serum is a contraindication in those still undergoing cancer treatments. Certain home care, such as Retinol or Retin-A, must be discontinued 2 days before treatment.

Waxing Questions

  • For most waxing services, hair should be 1/4 - 1/2 inch in length. The wax may not grab too-short hair. If the hair is longer than an inch, then it can be a bit more painful for the client. Please trim at home before your session.

  • No! Do not tan after your wax service for 24-72 hours. Tanning after waxing increases your chances of sunburn in the waxed area. Always err on the side of caution until you've been waxed several times and know how your skin will react.

  • Check your lotion's ingredients. Many fragranced lotions have a high alcohol content, which dries out the skin and causes irritation or ingrown hairs. I have serums, scrubs, and lotions to help combat these unwanted side effects. Also, beware of sunscreen if you're getting waxed before a beach trip. Sunscreen can clog pores, causing folliculitus.

  • I have serums and scrubs that can help with ingrown hairs. Some extra tips are to avoid excessive heat or sweat for 24 hours after your wax. Oil and dirt buildup in the follicles can prevent hair from properly coming out of the follicle, causing it to grow back down. Stay up on exfoliation for the same reasons. You can always talk to your esthetician for further concerns.

  • Waxing may remove some dead skin in the treatment. If you have an event coming up and are worried about streaking or discoloration, here are some general rules to follow: Make sure to fit in a shower between your waxing service and your spray tan application. If you’re using self tanner or a spray/airbrush tan, either spray tan > shower > wax; or wax > shower > spray tan.

  • First, try to schedule one wax as a trial run at least a month before. Sometimes there is a histamine reaction on your first wax and no one wants that on vacation. After your trial run, we can discuss the appropriate amount of time before your trip. Typically, I like to give the body at least 24 hours to calm down before the stress of travel. Even if it’s fun stress, your body doesn’t really understand this. It knows elevated heart rate, etc. So be kind to yourself and plan ahead.

  • This isn’t a one and done question. Do you exfoliate regularly? Did you allow enough hair growth the first time? With continued waxing sessions, your hair will get on the same growth cycle. But to start, you likely have little hairs under the skin waiting to come up from the last time you shaved. It takes a few sessions before we get you on a definitive cycle. The best way to prevent this is to let the hair grow for 2-4 weeks before your first wax. I know… it’s a lot. 2 weeks and we’ll definitely get a good amount. 4 weeks and we’ll get even more. Just be sure to trim down to under one inch of hair growth if it’s longer than that for your first wax.

  • I use only the highest quality wax products from Berodin Wax and Melting Pot wax warmers. The wax is specifically formulated to be used at a low heat, which the Melting Pot warmers are designed to cultivate. I use only professional pre- and post-waxing products to protect my clients' skin. My job is to protect your skin in the process. I use a gentle cleanser, non-comedogenic oil blend, and talc-free powder if necessary in waxing sessions. The wax itself also has no added fragrances, making it safe for most sensitive skin types.

  • Yes. I have gone through extensive training not available in standard schooling so I can be gentler and more efficient in my waxing services. I have been fortunate to travel the country and teach both male and female Brazilian waxing to other estheticians.

  • I’ve waxed many people who are on their period. Please wear either a tampon or cup during your session. I simply move the string out of the way to prevent interference with the wax. You may be slightly more sensitive during this time, as there is more bloodflow through the area.

  • I use the best pre- and post-waxing products to protect your skin no matter what you have on or in it. I've waxed around piercings and tattoos. If you have specific concerns, then feel free to contact me.

  • First, all legitimate questions are okay to ask. You are free to contact me with specific questions, but here are answers to a few common ones:

  • Everyone has a different pain tolerance. If you are a natural redhead, then it will be slightly more painful for you since your roots are stronger. I can explain more in a pre-appointment phone call.

  • I jokingly compare it to taking a puppy to the vet. They may get excited about the car ride...until they figure out where they're going! But in all seriousness, there is a 50/50 split as to the chances. Many people are too nervous so for this very fact, it's rarely an issue. The numbing cream can help with this issue as well. If there is a slight erection at the beginning of the wax application, then it typically subsides once the first wax pull happens, and does not return. There is a vast difference in clients having a natural biological reaction for a short time and those seeking services I don't offer.

  • Areas included in a men's Brazilian are the triangle between the front hip bones, and through the back between the buttock cheeks (AKA gluteal cleft for trivia knowledge). This includes the shaft, scrotum, and perineum. Talk to your esthetician about add-ons such as buttocks and thighs, along with which areas you don't want waxed.

If any questions were not answered here that you have, then please contact me for further questions.

  • I myself have eczema, so I understand sensitive skin issues. I always talk to my clients about their specific needs.

  • Almost nothing is fixed in one session. Occasionally we can figure out that something in your daily regimen is causing your unwanted issues, and removing it can fix your problems. Communication is key in skin care, so I talk with my clients and make sure we have a plan for their specific needs. Acne is always an ongoing process. Ask me about microchanneling for the most immediate and lasting results.

  • If you have an important event with lots of pictures, doing multiple facials to lead up to the event is best. The last thing anyone wants is to find out about an unknown skin allergy before pictures. Your last facial before an event is almost always going to be focused purely on hydration and relaxation. So if you’re needing extractions, these must be done far enough in advance to give the skin time to rest and repair.

  • Sure! If they are using proper home care. If they are not, you’re largely wasting your money and putting them through undue pain. Proper home care is absolutely necessary for acne.

  • Dermaplaning!!! And it’s awesome! In dermaplaning, we remove both the vellus hair and dead skin, leaving your face incredibly smooth. It’s one of my favorite treatments to perform. Just remember, you’re going to want to touch your face. I’ll give you 1-2 passes. Then stop! As with any treatment, keep the dirt and oil from your hands off your face. Especially with dermaplaning.

The best way to sum up facial and skin care questions is to say that every person is different. No two clients are alike. Your skin is your largest organ. Everything in your world affects it, so a one-on-one discussion is always best!

Massage Questions

  • Yes! When you have a massage performed on your body, toxins and lactic acid are released into your system. To avoid feeling sore or nauseated after a session, drink water to flush these from your system.

  • For most massage sessions, it is appropriate to remove all clothing, including underwear. This makes it easier for the practitioner to access the hip area and lower back. Only the part of the body being worked (i.e. leg, arms, back) is exposed, then re-covered to move on.

  • Because each person is different, talk with your practitioner before your session to discuss your specific needs. If you haven't had a massage in a while, then it is suggested that you aim for a shorter session. Longer sessions could make you feel sick since your body is not used to flushing out your system.

  • Again, everyone is different. The most common regular schedule is every 4 weeks for maintenance. If you experience high stress in your life, or have specific goals, then you may need every week to two weeks. Consult your practitioner.

  • It's never a concern of mine if my clients have shaved recently. In fact, shaving the day of your session can sometimes cause irritation because of friction!

  • General lymphatic massage falls under the scope of practice for Licensed Estheticians in Missouri. So - yes! However, if the lymphatic massage is requested for oncology or cancer reasons, I will refer you to someone more specialized. Feel free to ask for further explanation.

  • While most jewelry isn’t going to get in the way too much, please note that it will likely get oil on it. Necklaces however need to be removed. It is very difficult to properly work around the neck area with a necklace on.
